Constance Moore Simon currently works in the water-based medium of gouache paint. For 20 years, she worked in the black and white media of graphite and charcoal. In 1995, she started working with Colored Pencil as she developed an interest in color that led her to begin painting. These 3 bodies of work can be viewed on this site.
The subject-matter of Connie's still-lifes are tiny, ordinary objects such as paper-clips, stones, and buttons. Lately, the focus of her interest is less on the objects themselves and more on the formal elements of color and pattern. She is intrigued by a play between 2D pattern and 3D illusionism.
Connie has an M.F.A. from Syracuse University and a B.F.A. from the Cleveland Institute of Art. She has been exhibiting her paintings and drawings for 30 years in solo and group shows across the country. The Berman Art Museum at Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA has recently purchased one of her paintings for their permanent collection.
Connie was the recipient of the prestigious Individual Artists Fellowship Grant from the Delaware State Arts Council in 1993. Her work has been featured in national art magazines most recently in the Nov. 2006 and the Oct. 2005 issues of Artist's Magazine, and the May 2006 and July 2004 issues of Drawing Board,
an Artist's Magazine Special.
Connie lives in Wilmington, DE where she is currently on the faculty of the Delaware College of Art and Design.
